IRCTC train ticket refund not received? How to claim it
Updated 2026-10 · General information, not legal advice.
Refunds for cancelled trains and failed bookings usually go back to the original account. If it does not arrive, a TDR and a Rail Madad complaint are the routes.
When to use this
- The train was cancelled and the refund has not come
- Money was debited but no ticket was booked
- The refund after cancellation is short or missing
Step by step
- 1
Check your booking and bank statement
Confirm whether the ticket was booked or the booking failed, and the exact debit.
- 2
File a TDR where needed
For refund situations that need a Ticket Deposit Receipt, file it online within the time the rules give.
- 3
Complain on Rail Madad
Register on the Rail Madad portal or call 139 and note the complaint number.
- 4
Escalate to IRCTC and CPGRAMS
If the refund is still pending, write to IRCTC with the transaction ID, then use CPGRAMS. For money lost in a failed payment, your bank can also raise a dispute.
Key facts
- Keep the PNR, transaction ID and bank statement
- Time limits for TDR are short, so file early
- Rail Madad helpline is 139
