NHAI: highway and toll complaints
Updated 2026-10 · General information, not legal advice.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) looks after many national highways and their toll plazas. Report potholes, missing signs, toll disputes and highway emergencies through its helpline and portal.
What it handles
- Potholes, damaged roads and missing signs
- Wrong toll or FASTag deduction
- Highway emergencies and accidents
How to file
- 1
Note the details
Write down the highway number, the nearest toll plaza or kilometre stone, the date and time, and take photos.
- 2
Call the highway helpline
NHAI runs a highway helpline, 1033. Use it for emergencies and road problems.
- 3
Use the Rajmargyatra app or portal
Report road issues and track the complaint through the NHAI complaint options.
- 4
For a wrong FASTag charge
Contact your FASTag issuer (the bank) with the transaction details first, then escalate to the bank's grievance officer and the RBI Ombudsman if unresolved.
Key facts
